LGBTQIA is MIA
LGBTQIA is MIA
The LGBTQIA rights page is missing from the white house website. The Obama administration created this page as a resource for and a celebration of the achievements and victories of this vibrant community. But the current government administration isn't stopping with the removal of a web page, they're rolling back protections for transgender children, cutting HIV/AIDS research and essentially trying to erase the LGBTQIA community. GLAAD published this article, which includes a time line of every backwards thing the current administration has done to set back LGBTQIA rights in it's two months in office.
It's breaking my heart that these hateful people are trying to deny, disrupt and destroy such a beautiful and important part of our American society. I was really starting to feel like we were making progress in this country. However slowly, it felt like we were moving forward. And we still can and we still are. I chose to weave this piece in every color of the rainbow for both the obvious reasons and also as a reminder that civil rights are for everyone of every walk of life. The LGBTQIA community is our family, our friends, our spouses, our neighbors, our colleagues, our heroes and they are important. 20% from the sale of this weaving will go to support Lambda Legal, who is helping to lead the fight.
LGBTQIA is MIA was hand woven in Portland, OR on my Rio Grande walking loom from wool, silk and cotton yarn on a wool warp. It measures 29 x 52 inches or ~60 in. with fringe.
